Danny Stroud has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2014 Political Courage Test.
Pro-life | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
The law regarding pro-life vs. pro choice has been set for 40 years. The problem is when people in power think they can ignore the law or modify it for their own opinions. Abortion is available under the law. I do believe that steps must be taken to insure that taxpayer money is not used to provide abortions. As long as it is legal as a personal decision, those costs should not be a taxpayer responsibility. I also think that the definition of when abortion is permitted needs to be tightened up.... some of these "late term" abortions seem barbaric. |
Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
No | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Administrations normally look at military spending as a "big bucket" and indiscriminately reduce military spending by cutting in areas that hurt our ability to remain strong. There are ways to reduce spending without "punishing" retirees and active duty personnel or reducing our overall strength. As a veteran, i know we can reduce costs in a rational way. If we reduce tax rates for every person and corporation, while controlling government spending, we can reduce deficit spending. Lower TAX RATES will encourage growth and investment by all citizens and businesses. Our economy can grow by removing disincentives to growth. |
No | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Instead of trying to control it we should seek full disclosure so we all know who is contributing to what. |
No | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes | Do you support lowering taxes as a way of promoting growth in the economy?
No | Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
When the federal government tries to "manage" the economy with incentives and grants, the free markets are messed up and bad things happen. For example, Solyndra, received hundreds of millions of dollars only to fail. |
No | Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
The federal government should not even be in the business of education. |
Yes | Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes | Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
We need to have energy independence so we can reduce our dependence on the middle east. |
No | Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
No | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? |
No | Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
with the exception of criminals. they don't obey the laws anyway. we need to do better at punishing criminal use of guns. |
No | Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
i think we need to close the border and control further illegal entrance. for illegal immigrants that are here and effectively contributing to the economy (working, paying taxes, not on welfare, not a criminal), we can find a way put them into a process to manage them through an immigration and naturalization process. All other, should be deported. |
Yes | Do you support same-sex marriage?
I really think that it is not my place to judge and control. The federal government should stay out of it. States should be able to make these decisions. The people will make the right decisions for their communities. |
Yes | Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
Yes | Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
This is a a global issue and those who would harm us are not constrained by geography. |
Yes | Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
The US Government has done miserably at managing the Social Security program. They take the money and use it for other things. Most of us will never see any of that benefit. So there needs to be a gradual process to replace SS with a program that is fair and workable. |

The only one i know for sure is that the UN costs must be reduced or eliminated. As for the others, there is plenty of waste to go around. My goal would be to return the federal government to a constitutionally-based spending model. That, by definition, means that a lot of government spending must be eliminated or reduced. Programs that help the US prosper as a world leader would be scrutinized closely.
The way to think about this is about TAX RATES. We simply pay too much tax because the federal government spends way too much. we have to reduce spending. Once we reduce spending, we can reduce tax rates across the board and everyone wins. |
